17th November Alison Lester (1952)

Alison Lester, an Australian author illustrator is a favourite in my library. Her picture books are among the most borrowed books. Her books are perfect for this age group. There are books such as Moo; Purr; I'm Green and I'm Grumpy! and the series that started with When Frank Was Four that are all perfect for preschoolers. Then books such as Magic Beach; My Farm; The Journey Home and Are We There Yet? that form the focus for units of work on the sea, food and farms and the environment in K to 2 classrooms. Her Bonnie and Sam series are a winner with the year 2 girls and parents love her books as well so they are always out. We have been lucky enough to have Alison visit school twice and both times have been so special. The first time she came dressed just like her character Rosie and the children talked about it for weeks. Her website is extremely informative and formatted so as to be very accessible to children.
