4th November

No birthdays, so some trivia instead. You never know when you will need to know that today is the anniversary of the opening of Tutankhamun's tomb. On 4th November, 1922 Howard Carter got to gaze at the mummified remains of Tutankhamun's body, over three thousand years after he was buried. The children I teach are fascinated by mummies and long before they can read independently they will pore over pictures such as those in Into the Mummy's Tomb: The Real Discovery of Tutankhamun's Treasures. While learning to read they will borrow Tutankhamun and the Golden Chariot from the popular Franklin Watts Hopscotch series of books. And once reading well or as a parent read-aloud they will borrow Robert Sabuda's Tutankhamen's Gift.
